20 years ago—before ads and algorithms—Social Media was an “If you know you know” type of safe space that drove true connection, freedom, and self expression.
Social Media was once a place where profit wasn’t the main focus, your connections actually saw your content, and advertising for big brands was a risk. Social media was a safe space free from gatekeepers, parents, and grandparents that only the cool kids knew about. It was an escape away from control— it was FREEDOM.
I would argue that over the last 20 years, social media has lost everything that made it successful in the first place. But the need for freedom and escape from control is alive and well.
My bets on the future? Companies, places, and spaces that allow for true connection, freedom, and self expression to safely and authentically thrive.
